Steer being butchered

Here he is laying out on the table to be skinned.
The big truck that came to butcher him.

The poor horses wondering what was going on!!!!!

The truck was parked right by their pens.

George sitting while the butcher was working. Every job needs a good supervisor. RIGHT?????
When they butchered the steer, I cried like a baby. How can you raise a small calf on a bottle to the size he was and not cry when he is killed. He did get very mean at the end. He still wanted a horse treat when I was by him. He would even lick my coat trying to find one! He was getting to be a pain to take care of. He kept unplugging his water heater and would eat the duct tape off of the rail which held the cord and pipe to his heater.

water, water, everywhere!!!

Well, I couldn't sleep and so I thought I would write a little on my blog. I needed to get my mind onto something else than the wet, wet, wet pens around here and I am running out of shavings. UUUUURRRRGGGGG

Where is the sunshine??????? It was here a bit yesterday. I keep waiting but somehow it keeps evading me. I feel so sorry for the horses out in this even if they seem to be okey as long as there is food. Penny is sure enjoying it!!!! She plays and rolls around in it. It is so hard she doesn't even sink. She walks on top and runs around on it. The metal sides of my round pen are 12 inches and the snow is still that deep inside of it. It is between the horses and fence in the picture. Not much has melted yet!

What a beautiful day. I was up and going early and it felt so good. I went and got meds for George and then to the gym and then home to shower as George's brother came from Salt Lake and we went out to lunch at 11:00.
Isn't it awful for these brothers living so close and they haven't seen each other for 2 years. The brother is 3 years younger than George and that makes him 81. We had such a great visit for over 2 hours after eating. We left the waitress extra tips for having us occupy the booth so long. We vowed to see each other more often.

WhooHoo

The only thing good about this snow is Penny, our little Cairen terrier and she likes to bath in it.

Breathing a big sigh of relief. It took a lot of work but we finially got the tires for the tractor and got them on. Was so great to be able to drive the tractor. It was also nice to get it out of the way as the butcher can now get to the pen with the steer in. The only down side is that all my federal tax return is gone and I only had it for a week. YUK I was going to use it to show horses this spring.

Today is so wonderful outside. The sun is out and makes things so bright. I called to see if the rims for our tractor was in but they were not. About 2 hours later they called and said they were in Whoohoo. I hurried and drove up to Brigham and picked them up. I took everything that was needed to Jacks Tire & Oil and they said they would probably be ready today. I called them and NO, they won't be ready until in the morning. Oh well, I guess we will just have to wait until tomorrow night to put them on. We have to wait until our Grandson- in- law is home so he can go get them in his truck and then get help to put them on. it will be so nice to have the tractor fixed and moved. I miss the old feller as I love driving the old Ford tractor. It is just nice thinking of it being in working condition again after all these days sitting. At least the driveways are cleaned. I conned the neighbor into coming over to clean them yesterday. I needed to go to the store and also go to the gym. I put on about 10 lbs over the winter or should I say the yummy holidays and the FOOD.
The poor horses, I feel so sorry for them but they act like everything is fine as long as they have something to eat. Hahahaha We finially got George's truck out.

YUK SNOW

This shows how deep it was on the deck and it was kind of protected. Penny had a little trail she could go through. The picnic table and the swing are knee high with snow. Here are a few more of the snow out front.

I am so glad that the snow has fineally stopped. Even if they said we only got 18 inches, I know it was more. I called a neighbor to see if he knew of someone with a big tractor to come down and clean us out as we were so snowed in that we couldn't get back out to go to town. I needed to go but knew I wouldn't be able to get my car out, let alone get back in. The neighbor came down himself and what a job. He had a front end loader and did a great job. As you can see from the pictures we were really socked in.

I am so glad to get the driveways cleaned as we had to be able to get the new tires back to get on our tractor and also next Monday we get the steer butchered and there was no way he could get in there as the tractor was broke down right in front of the steers pen.

The snow was so bad today. It put down so much that when I went to town and then returned home, I couldn't get in the garage. I made about 10 tries but kept sliding and getting stuck. It was over a foot of wet heavy snow and it just packed in front of the tires and would stop me. We hadn't been able to clean the snow in the driveway for the last week and so it had really pilled up. I did get the car up onto the parking pad in front of the garage but then we had to shovel the snow from in front of the wheels and use the last os our snow melt and the gunning the motor and sliding some, I was finally able to get into the garage. Boy what a struggle and a blessing to finially get in. I just about ran over george because I didn't want to stop when I got going. I just yelled and told him to get out of the way. Hahaha
No going anywhere tonight. I am in the house to stay. Now I know why I hate winter. YUK

WhooHoo Babies

We are getting so excited as in about 6 more weeks and we can start watching for a new foal. We are expecting 2 and it is so wonderful to be getting them and I hope they arrive well and in good health. I love bonding with them and carrying them around in my arms. Thank God the moms are so great to be around.
The first one of the mares expecting is Lucky. She is the Gray and the Dam to our Hall of Fame filly Starlyte.
The other is the Black/White named Fancy and we are excitedly awaiting her baby as she always seems to have a show baby. We have one of hers from 2008 to show hopefully in 2009. Fancy is 15 years old this year.
Her filly from 2008 is really a hand full and we are hoping to show her in 2009 shows. Her picture is of her at 5 months old and she won a second place ribbon in the 2008 Futurity.
Well, here it is later in February and I was sure I would be on sooner than this. We have been so busy with all this snow and things just going wong for us. We did get our income tax done and was so excited to get a return but then our tractor broke down and with all that happened we ended up buying both of the BIG tires on it and then the rims. Boy, how did they know how much we would be getting back. Yep, they are getting it all.

Boy, has time went by. I didn't relize it had been a month since I had been on. The weather it seems is getting warmer and I an getting antzy toget outside and work with the horses again. I have went through my house and did things I had put off for a couple of years and so I do feel good that these are done for the spring already and I won't be wasting time doing them when I can be out with the critters. I am getting real anxious to get out to the shows this summer so I can see all my friends again. It sure has been lonely without them this winter.
